Reverse Runaway Speed

Runaway speed is the speed at which a turbine runner, or pump impeller, will rotate under no-load conditions

The Equation for the approximate reverse runaway speed for a centrifugal pump running in the turbine mode is as follows:

RRS = Nominal Speed*[(Head at turbine inlet)/(pump head at BEP)]^1/2
